Do you love what you do?
Do you love what you do?
Do you enjoy your job, or are you just enduring it?
Is the greatest intent of your week to only get to the weekend? Or to suffer until the next vacation day?
Is what you do an extension of who you are?
If someone told you that you have to quit your “job” tomorrow, would you be relieved or disappointed?
Many folks go through life simply enduring what they do, instead of loving what they do. Not all of career life is glamorous, or constantly fires us up. I get that. Some things you just have to put up with and endure. But if you daily dread getting out of bed and diving in to your occupation, to your career, to your vocation, then something has to change. It’s not worth it.
Don’t settle for just going through life enduring the 5 days of the workweek, to only have as your greatest goal of the week to make it to the weekend.
Love what you do, or at least like it. It’s too important not to.
I do!!!!! and I didn’t think 5 years ago i would…i started at a Construction company w no idea of who what when where and if i was gong to love it, but i told myself to stick it out for at least 5 years. 5 years later i’ve been able to do so much because of one thing i read in Seth’s book, Linchpin. “Transferring your passion to your job is far easier than finding a job that happens to match your passion.” This revolutionized the way i did, not only my job, but all aspects of life! The way i served at church, loved on people, worked in my job, and just lived life. It became a challenge for me with everything i did…to pour my passion into everything i do.
Thanks for the great post, Brad!
I love my job! I work in Promotions and Social Media for a not for profit and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Great post Brad!
I like what I do, but I love who I work with. The people on my team make all the difference.
The biggest hurdle for me is a precursor to Seth Godin’s challenge – my passions are defined. I feel like I’ve mostly just been doing what I was told.
You should get a business degree. Done.
You should minor in HR. Done
Get a job after college. What job? Any job. Done.
Get married. Done (very happily I might add)
Have kids. Done (completely LOVE being a dad)
Get an MBA. Graduation is next summer
Work your butt off until you die. In progress.
People ask me “what do you want to do?” and the question really terrifies me. Not because I don’t want to pursue passions or I’m a mindless monkey wondering aimlessly through my career. Most people would probably say I’m productive, driven and have a winsome personality.
It’s just that I don’t remember being encouraged to pursue the adventure. I was always told to be safe, to have a back up plan and do my duty. What kind of American dream is that?
What a great post. I have been in a job where I dreaded going in each day and learned the hard way it is not worth it. I found a job that I love by seeking where the Lord wants me and involving him in truly every part of my life.
Thanks for the encouragement!
