Books I am Reading

in Misc. 12 Comments

1. Linchpin- by Seth Godin. An instant classic. Seth challenges us with the question, “Are you indispensable?”

2. Making Ideas Happen- by Scott Belsky. Releases next month. This book should be read by every person who is required to move things to completion.

3. Plan B- by Pete Wilson. I’ve said before, and I’ll say again, Pete is the prototype Catalyst leader. This is his first of I’m sure many books.

4. Rediscovering Values- by Jim Wallis. Subtitle is A Moral Compass for the New Economy.

5. The Me I Want to Be- by John Ortberg. A spiritual formation book. Classic Ortberg style, which is always great.

6. Take Your Best Shot- by Austin Gutwein. The story of Hoops of Hope. Austin is a hero of mine, and only 15!

7. Drive- by Daniel Pink. One of my favorite business authors out there.

What’s on your nightstand?

all of those, at once?!?! WHOA! my mind would be quite confused. ha! I’m reading Forgotten God by Francis Chan, and a classic, The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I can only handle 2 books at once, Linchpin is next up on the line up for me.

  2. 1. Walking With A Limp (D. Allender)- Epic book for leaders.
    2. Linchpin (S. Godin)- It’s Godin. Enough said.
    3. US Weekly- It’s a trashy magazine, I know, I know. But it keeps me up to date with Jersey Shore and The Bachelor. So–it’s research :)

Honored to be on the list Brad.

I’m reading Ortberg’s “The Me I Want To Be As Well”. It’s incredible. The best he’s ever written I believe.

    1. Linchpin– Just finished…. based on the recommendation of you and Michael Hyatt
    2. How the Mighty Fall– Jim Collins rocks…
    3. Black Swan– this is twisting my brain
    4. Thousand Miles — Donald Miller… Great so far!

Note: “Black Swan” and “Thousand Miles” have been particularly interesting to read together. Both take a look at how we live or percieve our stories from very different perspectives.

Love the book lists Brad– you haven’t let me down yet on your recommendations.

Just finished Crush It – Gary Vaynerchuk and
The War of Art by Steven Pressfield
Linchpin sitting here next in queue.

  9. Hey Brad,

Those are some great books. I’ve been curious about Godin for a while but have not read anything yet. Ortberg is also always a hit–very solid writer.

    I just finished three books.
The Brothers Karamazov (Fyodor Dostoevsky) Classic Russian novel by a brilliant faith-filled writer.
Pagan Christianity (Frank Viola & George Barna) Intriguing look at many contemporary church practices and their origins. Lots to think about.
Where Am I Wearing (Kelsey Timmerman) An author’s journey around the globe to the places and people who make our clothes.

    Currently I’m reading.
Knowing Christ Today (Dallas Willard) An examination of the validity of spiritual knowledge–Willard is a brilliant philosopher.
The Brothers K (David James Duncan) It’s a great book about baseball, family life, and spirituality. It’s a follow up to The River Why

    Soon I will start.
Should We Fire God (Jim Pace) Jim is a long time friend of mine and leads one of the largest campus churches in the country at Virginia Tech. I’m looking forward to reading an advanced copy as soon as it arrives in the mail.

Thanks for sharing your book list too.
