I think the bigger issue, at least for me, is just being very self aware and setting boundaries. I too find myself filling any gaps with checking of Twitter, email, FB, etc from my phone but I try to police it. I treat those things like I do my cell phone now. My cell phone is for my conveinience, not everyone else. If I am busy, I don't answer and I don't feel bad about it. Same with email, and everything else. I'm also being very intentional to shut down the phone when it's family time, if I am in a meeting or on a date with my wife. :) I feel the same tension.
